Homo Heights was filmed in Minneapolis and St. Paul during August and September 1996, and premiered at the State Theater in Minneapolis in October 1997 during the Lesbian and Gay Film Festival. The producers of the film were Kate Lehmann, a Minneapolis native, and Sara Moore, who also served as the film's director. The film was generally favorably reviewed.
